Position Announcement June 2016

Lecturer (full-time)
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for Lecturer starting in Fall 2016.  The Lecturer will have full-time teaching responsibilities central to the undergraduate program in the Department, with the expectation of teaching 6 courses during the academic year.  We seek applicants who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity, with a strong commitment to teaching, mentoring and active engagement with students; and one who incorporates creative approaches to teaching that enhance the student learning experience.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate must have a PhD in Engineering or a related field, and classroom teaching experience with demonstrated excellence designing and teaching a variety of courses.  Candidates will be expected to demonstrate interest in and potential for outstanding teaching and the ability to innovate and adopt various teaching methods in the classroom and labs, advise senior design projects, and commit to advising and service.  Priority will be given to candidates with evidence of a successful teaching record and a track record of mentoring undergraduate students in innovative design and/or research assignments.  Industrial experience is desired, but not required.

Position Announcement June 2016

Electronics/Mechatronics Lab Lecturer (full-time)
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for an Electronics/Mechatronics Lab Lecturer starting in Fall 2016.  The position will have full-time instructional and maintenance responsibilities for 2 junior-level electronics laboratory classes offered in the Department.  Specifically, the courses focus on 1) basic analog circuits (RLC, op-amps, diodes, transistors and filters), and 2) mechatronics (microprocessors, programming, circuits for sensing and actuation, signal processing).  The instructor, working closely with the faculty course “owners”, will be responsible for managing and training graduate and undergraduate lab assistants for the course, managing the laboratory activities and assessments, working with faculty to update the existing and/or develop new laboratory exercises, as well as maintaining the supplies and equipment of the laboratory.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate must be able to closely collaborate with the various faculty teaching the course sections, bring enthusiasm and innovation, have a keen interest in student learning, and be willing to take on full responsibility for implementing the lab component of the course.  A PhD in Engineering or a related field is preferred, but MS candidates with extensive experience will be considered.  Priority will be given to candidates with experience with circuits, microcontroller systems, programming and debugging, and with evidence of a successful teaching record and track record of mentoring undergraduate students in innovative design and/or research assignments.

Open Rank Faculty Positions
Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Full Professor

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for exceptionally qualified candidates to apply for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions, with a target start date of August 2016 for some of the positions and January 2017 for the other positions.

Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Robotics, Dynamics and Controls, Energy Systems, and Risk and Reliability.

Exceptional candidates with expertise outside these areas are also welcome to apply.

Qualifications: Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor should have received or expect to receive their PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline prior to employment. Additionally, candidates should be creative and adaptable, and have a high potential for both research and teaching. Candidates for the rank of Associate or Full Professor should have a distinguished record of research and educational activities as well as a strong funding history.

Students participating in these programs gain professional work experience, earn a competitive salary, make invaluable networking contacts, integrate classroom theory into practice, and confirm their career choices. In conjunction with the campus Career Center, we also assist students in finding post-graduate positions.
