Background 

Dr. Carlos Morillo is a research associate at CALCE. He holds a PhD in Engineering from Kyushu University (Japan), a Master in Materials Engineering and also a Bachelors in Metallurgy Engineering from Simon Bolivar University (Venezuela). His research areas include tribology of materials in bioengineering and machinery fields. Also he had worked on development of nanomaterials, bio glasses, ceramic processing, coatings and characterization of bulk and surface of materials. At CALCE, Dr. Morillo’s work focuses on materials analysis of electronic connectors, lead-free solders, lithium-ion batteries, bearings, and electrolytic capacitors.

Before coming to CALCE, Dr. Morillo was working at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology of Japan (AIST), studying the effects of hydrogen on tribology (friction, wear and lubrication) of materials to improve the reliability of machinery systems that includes valves and mechanical sealing
