Maryland Robotics Center Student Seminar

Building What’s Next: Deploying intelligent machines for operations-critical applications at Oceaneering and beyond

David Pietrocola

Abstract

Mobile robots and intelligent machines have been used in various industries for decades to perform work and deliver value, often in dangerous, dull, or dirty environments. From AGVs moving material on factory floors, to ROVs operating deep under the ocean, customers expect high availability, intense focus on safety, and competitive ROI. At the same time, the pace of autonomous capabilities and customer expectations continue to accelerate. In this talk, we’ll learn how Oceaneering has been deploying mobile robots in a variety of environments and applications for decades to solve seemingly impossible customer problems. We’ll also explore current market trends and how the evolving robotics ecosystem is driving innovation and quicker time-to-market demands.

About the Robotics Student Seminars

The Robotics Student Seminars at the University of Maryland College Park are a student-run series of talks given by current robotics students.

The purpose of these talks is to:

  • Encourage interaction between Robotics students from different subfields;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to be aware of and possibly get involved in the research their peers are conducting;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to receive feedback on their current research;
  • Provide speaking opportunities for Robotics students.
