Mechanical Engineering Associate Director for Graduate Studies Kerri Poppler James has been recognized with the 2016 Dr. Marilyn Berman Pollans Outstanding Service Award for Staff. This award is given every year within the A. James Clark School of Engineering to recognize one staff member “whose service to his or her department, to the school, and the university has been judged outstanding.” This award was based on letters of recommendation provided by faculty, staff and students across the college.

James started her career at the University of Maryland (UMD) in 2005.  As Associate Director for Graduate Studies, she is integral to the success of the graduate program and department as a whole.

The selection committee highlighted her positive attitude as essential to her success in various roles within the Clark School, and they noted “her letters of recommendation spanned multiple units, past and present, where she left an indelible mark.” Her impressive recruitment initiatives have led to an increased number of applicants from B1G Ten institutions, along with a 50% increase in graduate applicants for Mechanical Engineering.

James will be presented with the award during the Clark School of Engineering Winter Commencement Ceremony, set to take place December 21, 2016 at 7:30pm at the XFINITY Center.
