Chung Promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure
Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty member Peter Chung has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure by University of Maryland President Wallace Loh, effective August 23, 2015.
Chung received his B.S. in aerospace engineering at the University of Virginia in 1994, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1996 and 1999. From 2003 to 2013, Peter served as a Mechanical Engineer and Team Leader for Interdisciplinary Computational Sciences and Engineering in the Computational and Information Sciences Directorate at the Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Chung joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering as an Associate Professor in fall 2013.
His research interests include multiscale simulations and computational approaches to connect nano-to-meso-to-micro/macro scales, mesostructured and microstructure modeling, multiscale science and engineering of matter across space and time scales and computational science and high performance computing.
This May, Chung will be co-organizing a symposium entitled "Computation-Enabled Materials Discovery" in the department featuring speakers from academia, industry and DoD Labs.
