Fellowships and Scholarships for Graduate Students

Through the generosity of alumni, industry partners, and friends,  the mechanical engineering department offers scholarships to highly accomplished graduate students. Scholarships are competitive and awarded based on merit, need, and other considerations.

A fellowship granted to one or more graduate students enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with research related to design, decision-making, data-driven systems, systems optimization, and/or systems engineering.

 

A scholarship granted to one graduate student in engineering or science with an active interest in the field of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning and supportive fields. Recipient must be an active member of the ASHRAE chapter at UMD and in good academic standing.

A graduate fellowship that supports one graduate student within the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE).

This award provides travel expense support for graduate students specializing in experimental mechanics or fracture mechanics. Recipients also receive the book, Fracture Research in Retrospect: An Anniversary Volume in Honor of G. R. Irwin's 90th Birthday.

Scholarships granted to one or more reliability engineering graduate students on the basis of merit.

A fellowship granted to one or more graduate students enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with research in the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE). Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. They must also be in the last 1-3 years of their Ph.D. program and have a record of academic excellence. This fellowship supports stipend and/or travel costs only.

 

Fellowships granted to one or more mechanical engineering graduate students on the basis of merit.

Fellowships granted to one or more reliability engineering graduate students on the basis of merit.

As one of the pioneers in reliability engineering, Professor Marvin Roush helped establish the educational program in risk and reliability at the University of Maryland. This fellowship honors Dr. Roush and his contributions to the field of risk and reliability by providing support to graduate students studying reliability engineering. An award granted to one or more graduate students enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Engineering whose focus is in the field of robotics or controls associated with robotics. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. 

 

A graduate fellowship granted to one or more reliability engineering student who have demonstrated interest and experience in increasing the participation of underrepresented minorities and women in engineering. The honor is granted based on merit, financial need, and alignment with the award purpose.
