The Southern Maryland Program is offered in conjunction with NAVAIR/ Patuxent River Naval Air Station Co-op Program, the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, and the College of Southern Maryland. In this program, students complete their first two years of math, physics, general education courses and basic engineering studies at another institution (usually the College of Southern Maryland.) Students then apply to the Co-op program at NAVAIR and for admission to the University of Maryland, Clark School of Engineering.* Upon acceptance in both programs, students take most classes in the junior/senior curriculum at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (either with a faculty member on site or through ITV from the College Park campus). Each semester, at least one class is taken on the UM campus. As part of their participation in the NAVAIR co-op program, students receive a stipend to support their studies, summer internships, and upon graduation they are expected to accept associated employment.
