IEEE Spectrum website features quadruped microrobot
IEEE Spectrum's website recently featured a story on the Microrobotics Laboratory's tiny direct-drive miniature quadruped robot. The robot, which fits in the palm of a hand, has four independent drive motors, one for each wheeled leg, or "wheg."
A paper about the robot, "Efficiency and Effectiveness Analysis of a New Direct Drive Miniature Quadruped Robot," was presented in May 2013 at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in Germany. The paper's authors are Microrobotics Lab Director and Assistant Professor Sarah Bergbreiter (ME/ISR), and her ME Ph.D. students Chris Brown (Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab) and Dana Vogtmann.
