ME Department Co-Sponsors Biosensor Symposium

On Monday, October 7, 2002, the Department of Mechanical Engineering co-sponsored a Biosensor Symposium, along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and The Joint Institute for Food Safety and Nutrition (JIFSAN). The Symposium, held at the FDA in College Park brought together local biosensor researchers for exchange of information and ideas.

The speakers, many of which are active in biosensor development, included

scientists from FDA, Naval Research Laboratory, Univ. of Washington, Univ. of Maryland (Avram Bar-Cohen), Univ. of Kansas, Ben-Gurion Univ., Israel and Intrinsic Bioprobes, Inc.

More than 120 scientists from FDA, UMD, USDA, Naval Research Laboratory and other organizations attended the meeting.
