In September 2009, the first annual IONS (International OSA Network of Students) - North America meeting will take place on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The conference is a student-organized gathering for students of optics and photonics who wish to network, share research, and meet potential collaborators and employers.

Friday's schedule includes a technical poster session and technical talks by students. Student presenters will have the opportunity to improve presentation and communication skills, as well as networking with students, and learning about fields not directly within the scope of their personal research.

On Friday, laboratory tours of local federal labs will take place at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Institutes of Health, NASA-Goddard, the Army Research Lab, the Navy Research Lab, the US Naval Observatory, and at UMD optics and photonics labs. Here, students will see what the Washington DC area has to offer them along the lines of research facilities, while they meet potential collaborators and employers.

Attendees must be registered for the conference. The registration fee is free of charge. For more information or to register, please visit our website.
