Gupta Awarded Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Aeronautical Society
The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) awarded Department of Mechanical Engineering Distinguished University Professor Ashwani Gupta a 2020 Honorary Fellowship award. RAes Honorary Fellowships are their highest recognition for outstanding contributions to the field of aerospace.
Gupta was recognized “for his lasting contributions to swirl flows and distributed combustion for ultra-high performance with near zero emission, including noise, from advanced high intensity gas turbine engines to power stationary power plants and aviation systems. His work on High temperature air combustion is used worldwide in industrial furnaces with demonstrated 25% energy savings, 50% pollution reduction.”
In recent years, Gupta received the 2016 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Soichiro Honda gold medal, the 2015 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Mechanical Engineering Division Ralph Coats Roe Award, and the 2014 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Air Breathing Propulsion Award.
He has also received Honorary Doctorates from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, King Mungkut University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand (bestowed by the Princess of Thailand), and the University of Derby, United Kingdom. In addition, he holds Higher Doctorates (DSc) from his alma mater, the University of Southampton and the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Over the course of Gupta’s career, he has co-authored over 280 journal papers, 530 conference papers, three books, 18 edited books and 19 book chapters. In 2016, Gupta was elected to honorary membership/fellowship of ASME, the highest professional recognition bestowed by ASME. He is recipient of the Golden Elephant Award from Thailand's Surindra Rajabhat University in recognition of his scientific achievements and collaborative efforts.
He is a Fellow of AIAA, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
The RAes recognized Gupta during their annual awards ceremony on November 23, 2020.
